When you see the potential for an article on a particular topic, think about what you know about that topic and what your students want to know about it. In other words, if they are really interested in this topic, they'll probably ask you for an article on the topic. If you can give them an interesting and useful article to read, then you've got yourself a winner.Don't get me wrong, I'm not against a bit of research topics in school. It is, however, important to keep the process simple. Don't spend a lot of time doing research on topics that aren't very important.You don't need to go too far out on a limb when coming up with research topics for English 101. Some of the easiest research topics you can come up with would be: movies, TV shows, magazines, and books. All three of these subjects are topics that students may not be familiar with, so that's one place to start. As k them what they like or dislike about their favorite TV show or read up on what they think about recent movies. That's good research.Now that you've got a couple ideas, it's time to get down to the nitty gritty. The best way to do this is to talk to your students about the things they'd like to know more about. At the end of each class period, ask them to brainstorm some topics and share their ideas with you.One popular choice is to try and find out what your students' favorite tv shows are. Then, spend a little time writing an article about them. This article should focus mainly on the plot, although it could be about anything else that you feel they may be interested in.If you've got some students who love to read books, then read them a few books in advance and see if you can come up with some interesting research topics for English 101. We all love to read, and it is very common for students to turn in several books on a particular topic. Once again, talk to them about the topi cs they discussed and then come up with an article about them.Maybe you can find out what your student's hobbies are. Many students have one thing that is a hobby and another that is a passion. Find out what their hobbies are and find ways to incorporate those into your research articles.Of course, your personal interest should always be taken into account as well. Don't forget that all of your students may have quite a few other hobbies as well.
